I’m Deany Laliotis and I am passionate about the power of EMDR therapy to transform lives.

Since 1993, I had the privilege of working very closely with the originator of EMDR and founder of the EMDR Institute, Francine Shapiro. I was the Director of Training for EMDR Institute, the training program developed by Dr. Shapiro herself that trains clinicians all over the world. My husband, Dan Merlis was also on the teaching faculty of the EMDR Institute. Together we run a professional training program in Washington DC where we also maintain a joint private clinical and consultation practice, working with clients and consulting with EMDR therapists we’ve trained over the years. For the last 20 years, I’ve traveled all over the US and abroad, teaching therapists how to use EMDR as a comprehensive relational psychotherapy focusing on the treatment of complex trauma, healing wounds of attachment and promoting the personal growth and clinical development of the therapists I train.

Realizing the Full Healing Potential of EMDR Therapy

For some, EMDR is an intervention—a one size fits all protocol. But this could not be further from the truth. EMDR is a comprehensive psychotherapy approach that is compatible with all theoretical orientations. Easily integrated with other therapeutic modalities—from couples’ therapy to neurofeedback—it is shown to accelerate healing and effect change that lasts. Over the years, I’ve heard from trainees, that they could not find a comprehensive training program that combines all the wisdom the field offers as a complete and coherent psychotherapy. What’s more, there’s never been a training program that unambiguously integrates the therapist’s personal growth with professional development. That’s why I created one.

Introducing The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy

This is a unique training institute that integrates interpersonal neurobiology, somatic processes, parts work and attachment theory within an EMDR therapy framework at every level of training. From the basic training to Master EMDR Therapy Certification, we offer a phased training approach so that therapists can grow into a full and confident mastery of powerful, comprehensive EMDR psychotherapy.
