Basic EMDR Training is your first step toward becoming an EMDR-certified therapist. This is a foundational course that covers the theoretical background of EMDR, the specific protocols and procedures used in this form of therapy, and the practical skills for implementing EMDR in your clinical practice.
You’ll learn the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, which explains how traumatic memories are stored and why they can continue to trigger symptoms. You’ll gain a clear understanding of the eight phases of EMDR therapy—from case conceptualization and target selection to reprocessing and installation of adaptive beliefs—equipping you to offer truly trauma-focused, evidence-based care. Through expert instruction, clear demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll be able to help clients resolve painful memories and restore emotional well-being.
By the end of your training, you’ll not only understand EMDR therapy, but also feel ready to use it with appropriate clients, supported through ongoing consultation as you begin this transformational work.

Take the First Step at You Own Pace
At The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy, we are committed to giving clinicians the strongest foundation possible for transformational work with their clients. To make our program more flexible and accessible, we have divided our Basic EMDR Training into two parts - Part I and Part II - without changing any of the content. The training remains a comprehensive, 46-hour program that exceeds EMDRIA’s standards, with more supervised practice and consultation than required so you can confidently begin using EMDR in your practice.
In Part I, you will be introduced to the theory and structure of EMDR therapy, learn the eight phases and three-pronged approach, and begin practicing core skills through supervised practicums. This first segment equips you to start using EMDR safely and effectively with appropriate clients with case consultation support. Part I consists of three training days and includes lecture, video demonstrations, and supervised practice. You will walk away with the a foundation in the model and practical skills to begin using EMDR with some of your clients.
In Part II, you will further develop your understanding of EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy approach. It is divided into two segments, Part II-A and Part II-B, which replaces the previous Parts 2 and Part 3, respectively. Part II is a total of five days, with Part II-A and Part II-B scheduled about a month apart—allowing you to integrate your learning, bring real cases to consultation, and return ready to deepen your skills.
Overall, The Center’s Basic EMDR Training equips therapists with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to treat trauma effectively, reduce client distress and confusion, fostering emotional and psychological well-being—setting you on the path toward EMDR certification and advanced practice.
We combine formal instruction with small group practice to give you a first-hand experience of EMDR memory reprocessing—from both the therapist and client point of view.
