Relational EMDR Therapy Master Class

Relational EMDR Therapy

As EMDR therapists who treat complex developmental trauma, we understand the importance of a dynamic therapeutic alliance as part of what makes it possible for our clients to “go there,” especially when trust and safety have been elusive. How we relate to our clients is part of the “memory in the making,” the parallel process that we co-create with them.  The invitation is for us to bring our best selves to our work in order to navigate this unchartered emotional territory of self and other.  In this 3-day master course, we will explore ways we can use our experience as part of the process both in and out of reprocessing, and to identify what can get in the way of helping our clients move towards healing and transformation.

Note:  This program includes lecture, discussion, video review and practice in dyads where participants are expected to work on their own material.  Minimum one year of clinical experience post-training in EMDR therapy highly recommended

Here are just a few of the things you’ll learn how to do:

  • Develop therapist attunement skills using nonverbal tracking of the felt sense experience, using the resonance between the therapist and client
  • Develop specific strategies in and out of reprocessing to bring attention to the client’s experience in the moment
  • Identify potential moments of meeting between therapist and client, making it more of a shared experience
  • Identify at least one attachment-related pattern of response on the part of the therapist that can be problematic
  • Understand therapeutic impasse through the AIP Model, and how to use the relationship between the therapist and client to facilitate movement in the work
  • Recognize the difference between core affective response versus defensive affective responses both in ourselves as well as in our clients
  • Effectively apply clinical interweave strategies (CIC) to facilitate reprocessing effects, making it relational, address fears and blocking beliefs, and generate adaptive actions for future use
  • Identify memories for reprocessing that inform the relational patterns that are problematic for the client in the context of their current relationships

A Note from Deany Laliotis,

Master Trainer and Founder
of The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy

Clinical challenges have inspired me for the last 40 years. To meet them, I’ve been committed to expanding the practice of EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy. I’ve worked with the field’s leading clinicians and innovators in EMDR, trauma treatment and somatic healing I’ve refined the application of EMDR to enhance its effectiveness in repairing attachment injuries, resolving negative life patterns and meeting the other challenges that come with complex trauma. As a trainer and consultant, I’ve traveled throughout the US and around the world to help therapists everywhere gain the understanding, skill and confidence they need to bring the transformative healing power of EMDR Psychotherapy to their clients.
